For Somatic Stretch trainees, therapists in the healing arts and anyone looking to relieve pain and move into greater ease

Join us at Indian Point in Rangeley, Maine where beautiful lake waters, fresh air and home made, organic meals accompany our classes in Somatic Stretch®, Fractal Anatomy and deep, somatic reviving!

As a “Western” doctor I was so inspired when I attended your SomaticStretch Retreat in Rangely, Maine last week. SomaticStretch is a gentle but powerful stretch program that enhances posture, wellness and most importantly alleviates musculoskeletal pain.

I was shocked and delighted to wake up each day with none of my usual aches & pains and not to be reaching out for pharmaceutical relief! I highly recommend this program to everyone! Thank you! Thank you!”
~ Dr. Rachel Kidney

This retreat is focussed on self-care for anyone looking for practical tools to keep your body healthy through stretch and breath, and alleviate symptoms while avoiding injuries in other activities.

This powerful, yet gentle work, is good for all levels of flexibility, or non-flexibility as long as you are comfortable sitting on the floor.

We also will be diving into geometric cosmology, understanding the role of fractals in basic physics to better understand our own bodies and how to access deeper levels of healing through more direct access to your nervous system.

This area of study is important because you cannot alleviate an area of pain when you do not know where the primary cause of tension lies! We think the area of pain IS the area of problem but when you understand the practical – and even fractal! – way the body is put together, the insight and ability to get into the problems areas and resolve them is a huge thing for students.

This is why we do what we do. It really helps others.

Here are a few comments from last years evaluation forms:

‘Within just a few days my mobility improved by something like 85%! As an initial introduction to Somatic Stretch, I would say the results are absolutely remarkable!’

‘I am going home with my resources renewed, re-calibrated and expanded upon!’

From a 27 year old male participant:

‘My mood has improved, I can handle my pain, depression, anxiety and energy in a new light. I feel more grounded and full of  intention.’

Others called it ‘life changing’ and ‘utterly transformational’.

Whether you are a therapist in any kind of somatic work – massage, chiropractic, acupuncture etc. – or an individual not working in the healing arts but interested in how to increase wellness, this five day retreat is an excellent adventure into the Nature of healing you can bring back to life at home.

We will be stretching more gently than you can imagine, creating more flexibility than you thought possible, learning points to work on your own body or others to help with individual issues and eating healthy, organic meals. It’s a beautiful time together – and to give yourself.

For Trainees:

Those in the Somatic Stretch training program will hone their skills in body reading with other new students as they fine tune their practice toward certification. They are also a great support to other students new to the work.

For Therapists:

Any modality of working with the body and mind is enhanced by understanding the weaving of Eastern and Western medical perspectives. The geometry of the Body is an essential guide to unlocking patterns of tension that exist on the physical and emotional spheres, therefore, this helps us as therapists to help ourselves, while accelerating our ability to support our clients conditions. Everyone – therapists or not – learn a great deal from this that helps their personal healing path through the study of fractals and what medicine is understanding about them today.

General public:

Fractals, stretch, breath, geometry, clean air, beautiful food and swimming, paddleboarding or kayaking in the remarkable Rangeley lakes all make for a powerful get-away to fuel anyone.

The theory components of the retreat are not over anyone’s head, and yet they provide powerful insights into your own body by drawing together things you intuitively knew, but weren’t sure how to visualize, or use to your advantage.

Geometry is only now becoming known for its insights into new physics and what this has to do with your body is equally remarkable and inspiring. Due to the content of the theory, this is a retreat you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else and you will leave embodying the work rather than thinking the theory by the time you leave!

Your level of flexibility is of little importance as you will leave more flexible than when you arrived. The only thing you need to be able to do is sit on the floor, with or without cushions to support you. Only those with greatly incapacitated movement in daily living should not come to this retreat as private sessions are more appropriate for those conditions.

Indian Point is a remarkable property four hours from either Boston or Montreal, or two hours from Portland, Maine, in a breathtaking lake district. Swimming, paddle boarding, lounging, writing and walking are all encouraged between organic meals, daily classes and a trip to Wilhelm Reich’s lab and museum to learn more about physical and emotional armoring that result in muscular tensions.

Classes and Activities

This workshop is for individuals who want to amplify their health through gentle stretch, learn how to ease their own aches and pains and bring this knowledge and inner awareness back home into their daily lives. This retreat is also for trainees to hone their skills and gain greater confidence in their own personal practice, or gain more training towards certification as a Somatic Stretch teacher. We will be covering such things as;

* In depth understanding of the stretch reflex. This is the core teaching of Somatic Stretch ~ re-educating the mind to recognize the point in movement or extension that flexibility can greatly increase, without strain. Understanding the role of postural alignment is emphasized once the essentials of the stretch reflex are covered, and both are integrated into a full, somatic awareness for each individual by the week’s end.

* We will be learning about Fractal Anatomy, how to see the geometric structure of the nervous system to witness core tension patterns in the body. This helps us to understand all the more how the nervous system plays a part in our tension responses, and how to access this for better health results.

* We will learn how to read tension patterns in bodies to better understand a students process, giving us insight into what we are holding and where, what we are ready to release and what will take some time, and how best to move through that territory. This is a fun class where you get to give and receive deeper information about the bodies of you and your classmates, helping each person to work with their own patterning that much more, becoming better teachers and/or personal self-healers along the way.

*Emotional response and release is often part of the process of letting physical pain go. This can happen and these emotions are held in a safe space where one person’s vulnerability actually affects and releases tension in other participants – it’s all part of an alchemy you don’t need to prepare for or be nervous about. Anything that happens in these retreats happen with a lot of ease and less stress than you can imagine. Even ‘anti-group people’ who come with concerns about meeting other humans leave happy! One such student emailed me a month after the retreat and said,

“I feel so crazy blessed to have met so many wonderful people and  shared so much deep emotion, the likes of which I have never experienced before… “

* We will be learning a lot about trigger point work/acupuncture points you can do on yourself to work with your specific issue, as well as how to begin understanding how to help others by using particular points that unlock significant areas holding tension.

* One of the big attractions – aside from the classic Maine architecture, wooden paneled bedrooms and bathrooms, gorgeous property, inviting hot tub and loons calling on the lake as you fall asleep – is the fact that Wilhelm Reich’s home and laboratory is right down the road.

This pioneer was a contemporary of Freud’s in Vienna starting at the young age of 23, and he grew to be famous, infamous and imprisoned by the American government after fleeing the fascist regimes in Europe. He published many books as he scientifically went about researching how to quantify ‘life force’ in the body and his books were the ONLY ones ever burned by the US government when he was sent to prison, where he died in 1957 at the age of 60. His property, home and lab in Rangeley has been kept with great care, just as he left it 60 years ago, down to the coats and shoes he left in the closet the day he left his home to go to jail and never return.

What did this man do to provoke such a massive governmental response and what significance is his work today? Here is a video to learn more. We will be taking a tour through his lab and museum, learning about the world of ‘character armoring’ and how our tensions affect the psyche. There is so much to say about Reich that I will save it for the retreat, and can only say now that I will be offering a very rare wander through his life and work as I have been studying him for many years, and also have had the good fortune to study at his lab with MD’s and PhD’s dedicated to keeping his work alive.

  • Paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, hiking and relaxing are all available, every day.

For those interested in a more comprehensive study between Western and Eastern medical systems you can learn more through the free, short videos online on my webpage here.

Those coming for their own personal reboot, or daily auditors of the courses are free to design their own time around our schedule. You can learn as much or as little as you feel called to, and relax the rest of the time.

Early arrival: Free accommodation is available Tuesday July 17th for those who wish to arrive the day before and receive bodywork sessions with Meredith or to check in and go over your individual intentions and needs for the week. Meredith meets with each student before the retreat gets underway and early arrival gives you plenty of time to get settled, play and get ready for a beautiful dive into the somatic depths!
